The UNISA- Household Food Security Programme is a short learning access programme providing a higher certificate at NQF level 5.  It is a mixed mode distance education higher certificate and community engagement programme, working through canvassing decentralised groups of learners tutored in their areas and supported by dedicated promoters. They undergo a 1 year 6 Module learning programme and implement their learning process with five households in a community setting. The households work together to implement a process of gardening and vegetables and food production with a focus on nutrition and value adding an build a platform in their community to tackle food security issues. The programme is implemented in partnership with Government debarments and civil society
